A short history of tourism development in Ylläs

The first tourists came and visited Ylläs in the 30s. At that time the local people didn’t use to have visitors and so they lodged them in their own house. Since the tourists were getting more and more, the villagers built near to their houses small cottages as accommodations. This way of lodging became the most well-known and best developed one in all Lapland and represents our cultural way to welcome our guests.
